Dear friends:

It’s picnic time again! This coming Sunday, July 17th, is our annual outdoor worship service and church picnic Sunday. Please note: This year we will be holding these two events at Mason-Dixon Park, 70 Buckeye Road, Core, WV, 26541.

Mason-Dixon Park is off Route 7 West. Directions to the Park are below, or you can Map-Quest, or Yahoo Maps, or Google Maps the park, and get your personalized directions from your door to the Park.

Worship will begin at 10:30 a.m., and will include Communion. The picnic will begin immediately after worship concludes. I will make every effort to be brief with the message of the day.

Courtesy of Dan Headley, we will have a large charcoal grill available for those who want to bring something to grill. We will be providing hot dogs and hamburgers with buns and rolls, but feel free to bring your own items to grill.

Bring something to share, as we will eat “Pot-Luck.” Also, to be more “green” this year, we’re encouraging people to bring their own utensils, plates, cups, etc. Don’t worry, however, if you forget. We will have some plastic ware, plates and cups in reserve.

Our “World-famous Cake Walk” will once again be a part of the picnic festivities! Bring a cake or two to add to the prizes. Be as creative as you are inspired to be. I am assured that Keith Wright will only use compatible ingredients this year in his cake.

If you want to attend the picnic, but need a ride, please call the Church office by Noon on Friday, July 15th, and I’ll be sure you will get to Mason-Dixon Park on Sunday.

The final, official arrangements are to have calling hours from 6 p.m. til 9 p.m. at on Thursday, June 16th, at McCulla Funeral Home. The service will be at 11 a.m. at McCulla Funeral Home, followed by a light lunch at the Church.

Friends,

It is with sadness that we announce the passing of John Montgomery this evening, Tuesday, at 6:26 p.m., after a courageous battle with cancer. John did pass peacefully. Thank you all for your prayers on his behalf.

Funeral arrangements are incomplete at the moment (Tuesday, 9:50 p.m.), but I will follow this email up tomorrow afternoon with the details of day and time of viewing and day and time for the funeral.

As of now we know that the funeral service will be at McCulla Funeral Home, and that there will be a light luncheon following at the Church. If you wish to contribute and/or help with the luncheon, please contact Joyce Aitken at home (304) 292-8638.

Update on the arrangements for John Montgomery’s service:

Tentative viewing time frame will be Thursday evening, 7 – 9 p.m., June 16th at McCulla Funeral Home. There may also be an afternoon viewing. I won’t be sure on this until after 4 p.m. today (Wednesday, June 15th).

Funeral service will be at McCulla Funeral Home at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, June 17th. Light luncheon to follow at the Church.

I will send out one final email this evening with confirmation of all information.
